This week I was lucky enough to interview Sterlin Mosley, author of the book The Narcissist in You and Everyone Else: Recognizing the 27 Types of Narcissism which was only released two weeks ago. Sterlin Mosley graduated from the University of Oklahoma with Master’s Degree in Human Relations with an emphasis on counseling and personality psychology. Dr. Mosley received his PhD in Communication focused on intrapersonal, cultural and interpersonal communication from the same institution. He teaches undergraduate and graduate classes in Human Relations such as Cultural Awareness, Personality and Human Relations and Sexism and Homophobia. His research into the Enneagram personality system and self-description seeks to uncover the language and subjective psychological experiences of the 9 personality types. Sterlin is a certified Enneagram teacher and coach and trained extensively with Enneagram Master Teacher and Coach Katherine Fauvre. In addition to being a personality nerd, Sterlin is the co-founder and Creative Director of Central Oklahoma Dance Company and school and ballet dancer.
Sterlin and I talk about the extensive research he has done into typing and discovering a person's instinctual stack as well as his personal experience towards discovering his own type. Sterlin discusses the motivation for publishing his book and gives us a sneak peak into some of the less recognized forms of narcissism out there.

Kara interviews her colleague Darren Yee who is a Myers Briggs typologist and works for the NYU Entrepreneurial Institute where he provides coaching to those in launching startups. Darren is new to the Enneagram and was lacking some clarity over his type and stack so he offered to have his typing session recorded so you can learn some of the important difference between the point five and point nine structures, which is a common mistype. We also touch on another common mistype between point nine and point two and explore Darren's instinctual stack.
Darren and I are learning typology from https://www.personalityhacker.com/ who also offers a free online test if you want to start exploring how your MBTI influences your Enneatype. Please reach out to me at Enneagramblindspots.com if you would like to be typed in private or on a future episode.

Meet Trevor Walsh, a Counsellor at Vancouver Coastal Health who also has his own private Enneagram based counselling practice. This is a long episode and I just couldn't cut any of it because I so enjoyed the places our conversation took us. Trevor manifests components of all three instinctual drives and has historically identified as SP. We also talk alot about Meyer's Briggs typology and why this INTJ tests as an INFJ. We also talk about psychedelics and how these may impact the nervous system in different types. Enjoy the journey!

What are Enneagram Blindspots?

The instinctual drives, self preservation (SP), social (SO), and sexual (SX) are the three forces that fuel every aspect of human behavior. A person’s Enneagram Type is the strategy that the personality has chosen to meet the instinctual needs. Personal growth happens when we can learn to become more aware of these patterns so that we can have more freedom from our identity structure.

Becoming conscious of the instinctual blindspot is one of the most practical, effective ways of getting out of the habitual patterns created by a person’s instinctual stack plus Enneatype. Working with the blindspot not only allows us to express a more balanced expression of the instincts, but also frees the heart, mind, and body from the forces that constrain their true expression. Working with our blindspots allows our three centers to integrate and come into their own, rather than being hi-jacked by the agenda of our dominant instinct. In addition to the instinctual blindspot, our Enneagram types, object relations, and past trauma also create an array of other blindspots, or shadows. It is important to acknowledge that we cannot become aware of what we are blind to, or can’t see, which is why this work can’t be done in isolation.  Because we all have an instinctual blindspot, we need mirroring, modeling, and support from other people. While there is a portion of personal growth work that we must and can only do by ourselves, a portion must also be done with other people because our personality is set up to prevent us from seeing our blindspots. John and Kara are deeply committed to their own personal work, and are passionate about supporting others, and creating learning communities in which we can learn and grow together.
